Bed of Roses — Speed Post: 5 of 12
We go to bed at dusk in Halfland, just as the heavenly gold of light crawls across your caterpillow.
Finally finished the cottage set's bedroom wall(s), complete with handmade cottage roses devolving into the bedroom's wallpaper. A sleepy handmade spider web spans the open window as rose hips and leaves fill the teacup rose cups that also grow there. Each sunset, Rana takes a cup naturally filled by the roses and pours hot water over what's fallen into it, letting it steep before drinking.
I added dimension to the rose pattern on the walls with thickened matte medium in stages (detail above). They were colored with ink pencils and acrylic paint pens, then dried. My pencil collection is kept in my DIY color bandolier that I've added swatches to directly. The teacups were painted after an old Tiffany and Co. treasure I'd had for many years.
A painted cup on the vine and a much larger one, fallen outside the window, onto the oversized scale set for the Pink Snail's nightly walk.
Having the evening tea made from what naturally falls in the cup on the vine was a happy development from building the wall. A magical touch for the tale that didn't come from my mind but rather showed itself to me by doing. The entire project has several of these touches, and they always delight me tremendously.
