Dressing Kyra
Translucent aqua glass teardrop beads were fashioned with hand-painted silk scraps into a
kelp-like ornament over one shoulder, successfully suggesting the sea without too heavy a hand.
The halter-style back devolves into a braid. The character looked beautiful nude, but I didn't need that to constantly distract from the story. So, while choosing to clothe her, I didn't want it to be out of shame at her nudity or for it to look exactly like our clothing. I wanted tattered remnants to look like she kept adding odd pieces she'd find at undersea wrecks. Her breasts are still visible through the translucent layers but are less obvious.
It's the most unclothed clothing I could fashion. Its faintly harnessed style is carefully not bathing suit top-ish.
A frayed, pretty, delicate ocean-color, primitive dressing.
Sheer fabrics were hand-painted/dyed in Kyra's specific color palette, sprayed, and pressed with copious starch to keep them from moving on their own during filming.
Her finished torso was first wrapped in clear cling film to allow me to drape glue-soaked pieces directly on her shape for the best (and easiest) body fit. Layers were pinned into the body in place until the costume began to take a pleasing shape.
A deep blue-grey wash was added by brush in the places where dirt might collect to shade and give it all more dimension. Clear fine thread was used with a curved needle to secure the fabric and the trims in place. It's meant to look random and natural, but every edge and end is deliberately fixed around her contours.
Wow, looking wonderful ! You work miracles !
