Ooooo, The cottage at night!

Snapped this BTS shot of the main set in progress and was surprised and delighted at how the work lights illuminated the cottage and Answer Tree. It never occurred to me that the cottage could look so welcoming in its (eventual) landscape!
It looked incredibly magical.

So now, get this (!), The cottage roof panels will be added, and the landscape will be made a bit darker, as if at night; a panning long shot ends the Bug Party sequence as the lively music drifts away. We get a lingering moment of the whole landscape with the cottage interior, lighted like this and looking warm and inviting.

At this point, we've already seen the Dusk sequences inside the cottage earlier: the evening meal of soup, being with friends cozy inside, tucking into bed, and watching the pink snail, with its home on its back, lumber into the garden. Then we get to attend the wild Bug Party by the creek as Rana and Company blow out the candles one by one and go to sleep.

All is quiet as the Akt's shift from Dusk to Dark. We can hear rainfall as Dark begins. The next shot will be Tarn's face arriving at the bay window with discordant sounds in the mix of glass breaking and a baby crying. She is darkness and depression itself, like tar you can't get out of. But when she intrudes into the stillness of the home, we discover that she is injured and in need of help.

That's it for Dark; after everyone makes a start to help the injured Tarn, the rest of the series takes place in a brightly sunlit golden desert.

  1. Hi again! Is there ever a precursor to Tarn's arrival (like a flying silhouette for example?) or is her appearance outside the window our first glimpse? Is her arrival here an accident? The homely warmth of the cottage would draw me to it too - it glows.

FANTASTIC IDEA, Jill! I have no idea who you are but you have made huge contributions here and are incredibly knowledgable about what make stories good. What a sensational idea to have an indication ahead of her face showing up. It would be easy to throw a shadow (appropriately, as she is depression) over the ground, maybe as we see the inviting cottage in long shot after the Bug Party.

    Brilliant. Thank you!

Initially, I had Tarn arrive in the night via a half tortoise/half hare creature with a saddle on it's back, like a horse. That creature has been currently cut for time. But even if it had been included, it wouldn't have given any sense of shift in mood that will now make the story so much better!

    Who. Are. You?!

Adding too, that I always had it in my mind that Tarn (Darkness) came to Rana (Wisdom) for help after being injured (in an unnamed way). As if, Rana was whom everyone went to for help/care. Rana would know what to do in all cases, as she'd been alive for so long.
