We Are Given
“Don’t borrow Time...
It has to be given.”
The story of Halfland spontaneously develops from two main sources: closer and closer observation of nature and the making of natural conceptual connections through intuition. The other day, I had a new 1/2L idea that the Time Frog should escape. Time on the loose, time to myself, time unkept appeals to me. I constantly battle with chronological time. I represented it as it was to me, a frog, enigmatic, elusive, slippery, hard to get a hold of, hard to pin down.
Today, I randomly opened one of my many private journals for no reason and saw the quote above written several years ago, and immediately thought of something newer still for the story. Halfland's main character, Rana the goatwoman, represents Wisdom, and she is the Keeper of Time. His pond is on her land, etc.
What if Rana gave us, the viewers, Time? All the Time in the World, trusted to us from our Wisdom. We get hold it in our hands, to play with or to ignore. It doesn't care which.
What will you do with yours, once you are given it all?
Well, you have been busy! I’ve managed to catch up with your updates and things are really progressing aren’t they?
ReplyDeleteYour concepts rack is great – I love the idea of leafing through all your collected ideas from many years condensed into a hanging page for each theme.
You were right about the ‘soil’ – letting go/editing is what this stage is all about to crystalise your vision – have courage!
Half goat Rana, to me, represents the quintessential duality of human and animal in the way we process time. Animals have the gift of never knowing what time is and the human animal has the blessing of understanding a finite life. Rana is wise enough to know you cannot control time, but the knowledge that time exists is the gift of being able to chose how to use it. Her Time Frog is like our biological-clock; unstoppable, relentless and barely governable, while Rana holds our Sentiment Time where emotion and feeling play out, when time isn’t being measured.
Wow – that was a lot of words LOL. I’ll stop rambling now and let you crack on.

Rambling?! HA! Hardly! I'm saving your entire comment as an oracle touchstone on my wall! Honestly, Jill, you haven't indicated who you may be or how you've come to have such perspectives, but I'm glad you visit here and share these gems, jewels, and pearls for the project. You make it even better.
